Zoe, Akyea & Co.’s values and culture pivot on our commitment to the promotion of human rights, access to justice, the rule of law, and positive social change.
Public service to our immediate community and broader society is a core aspect of everything we do at Zoe, Akyea & Co. At any one time, members of our Firm, as a group or individually, participate in various social initiatives.
Through our Social Responsibility Program, our lawyers apply their talents and serve the needs of our community through the following initiatives:
Pro Bono Volunteering
Zoe, Akyea & Co. has cultivated and fostered a commitment to providing society’s most vulnerable members with pro bono service, and this has become a tradition ingrained in our practice.
As lawyers, we recognize this service is part of our professional practice, and the strength of our pro bono practice lies in our dedication to alternative forms of dispute resolution and strategic litigation where necessary to bring about systematic change.
Members of our Firm are encouraged to find a cause that sparks their interest at the earliest stages of their careers and use their professional legal knowledge and working hours to benefit those who are disadvantaged, underprivileged, or lack access to justice.
We work closely with Ghana’s Public Defenders’ Division (PDD) under the Ghana Legal Aid Commission and other local non-profits and social justice organizations in our aim to pursue justice and impact lives.
Whether it involves non-profit incorporation, elderly or differently-abled persons, domestic abuse victims, criminal appeals, or advocating for human rights in the Supreme Court of Ghana, our pro bono work is critically important to improving the lives of our clients, and we remain dedicated to these causes.
We staff and support pro bono work with the same enthusiasm and resources that we devote to our billable work, and our lawyers will provide pro bono advice, case preparation, and advocacy to those who cannot afford legal representation before, during, and after court proceedings.
Sustainability
Zoe, Akyea & Co. is committed to protecting the environment. As such, we strive to reduce our carbon footprint by innovating and focusing our resources where it is practical to conserve energy and protect the environment.
We recognize the impact that business has on the environment, and we are committed to sustainability, responsible management of resources and social impact.
The Firm’s operations are carried out with the aim of having a positive social and environmental impact.
In implementing this commitment to manage our environmental impact, we will:
- Ensure that environmental considerations are integrated into our business decisions.
- Ensure that we use risk assessments in order to identify potential environmental risks to our businesses.
- Actively pursue opportunities to minimize the environmental impact of our operations, concentrating mainly on energy use and waste disposal.
- Work to develop a more comprehensive understanding of environmental issues among our suppliers and workforce.
- Regularly review our policies to ensure that they remain properly aligned with the need to reduce waste and encourage the most effective utilization of scarce resources.
- Continually review our business processes with a view towards neutralizing and reducing our environmental impact, adopting a practice of sustainability.
Charitable Activities
Since our founding, members of our Firm have supported several charitable organizations and initiatives of all sizes by volunteering their time, fundraising, and donating and mentoring students and underprivileged persons.
Zoe, Akyea & Co. harnesses its resources and awards up to 1% of its annual profits to charities and organizations that reflect the ethos and values of our Firm, mainly through our charity arm, the PinaMaa Foundation.
We identify two causes each year that benefit from a large grant, and we also make a series of smaller contributions to less privileged persons and emergency funding of urgent campaigns or activities.
We are also committed to identifying causes we can partner with and organizations that support similar causes as part of our corporate social responsibility.
We strive to offer our abilities and resources for the betterment of the legal profession and to encourage future generations to carry on our commitment to compassion, collegiality, and the prosperity of humanity.
